How to
Enter*
Download an official entry form. Make sure you check out the
official
rules and the
links to great reference sites.
Choose any or all of the birds listed below (limit one entry per
person/group per bird):
1.
American Robin
2. Blue Jay
3. Common Loon
4. Killdeer
5. Mourning Dove
6. Red-winged Blackbird
NOTE:
Classrooms or groups (e. g. scout troops) are welcome to participate.
Please enter under one member’s name on behalf of the group. If your
entry is selected, the entire group will be acknowledged.
Find the birds in their natural habitats (such as the backyard, park
or nature center). Describe the environment on your entry form.
Please keep in mind that you are there only to observe. It is important
to respect the birds and their habitats.
Listen to each bird’s song.
Describe what each bird song sounds like to you, by writing your
description on the entry form. For instance, an American Robin’s song is
sometimes written as, “Cheerily, cheer-up, cheer-up, cheer-up, cheerily,
cheer-up!”
Enter your original bird song(s)—postmarked or submitted on or
before September 6, 2008—in one of three ways:

parent or legal guardian’s signed permission (on each entry form) is
required to participate.
How to
Win
All
entries will be reviewed by our panel of judges, and one winning entry
will be chosen for each bird (six winners total), based upon the pattern
of the bird’s song, creativity and uniqueness.
Each
winner will have his/her name and winning entry featured in the next
printing of Wild About Minnesota Birds. The winner from each
category will also receive the following bird watching prize package:

• Bird Log Kids Book
• Birds of Minnesota Field Guide/CD Set
• Two tickets: Science Museum of Minnesota
• Wild About Minnesota Birds Book
Winners will be notified during the first two weeks of November. Total
retail value of each prize package is $140.
